Prairie Ridge Ecostation Activities

A cornucopia of captivating activities awaits the curious explorer at Prairie Ridge Ecostation. The following is a mere smidgen of the activities one might consider, though those with particularly inventive minds are encouraged to forge their own path.
Walk the trails

You’ll find yourself presented with a delightful choice: two main trails, each promising a unique brand of scenic meanderings.
For the time-pressed adventurer (or perhaps the weary grandparent), the Prairie Trail beckons. On this shorter jaunt, you’ll gently veer to the right just inside the entrance fence and wind your way through a charming expanse of prairie grasses.
For those seeking a more immersive experience, the Forest Trail awaits. Turn left just beyond the trailer to wind your way through the woods. You’ll make your way through the Nature PlaySpace, along the gentle gurgling of a creek, through a serene arboretum of native trees, and finally merge onto the Prairie Trail which leads you back to the parking lot in a satisfying one mile loop.
A detailed map awaits you at the entrance kiosk. Take a picture should you require a visual reassurance that you won’t be forever lost among the chirping squirrels.
The Kids in Parks Track Trail is designed especially for adventurous youngsters! Visit the information kiosk near the picnic area, just below the Outdoor Classroom for brochures to guide your adventures. Some are also available for download as e-adventures. Adventure options include:
- Birds of the Piedmont
